The Journey of Conception

Females go into heat every 6 months on average sometimes they may come in a month or 2 earlier. When the female drops the first sight of blood she's taken from population and monitored closely, so there isn't a unwanted or mistaken pregnancy. When she reaches her 8-10 day of heat she's then ready to be bred and is then placed with her selected mate for breeding. The dogs then mate, mate, and mate some more but only if the female is accepting to the male. Once the breeding period is over, the female is immediately placed on prenatal supplements and is monitored for the next 30 days for signs of conception.

Note: not all matings are successful, the female does not always conceive, sadly.

At 25-30 days of suspected pregnancy the female is taken to the vet for an ultrasound to confirm pregnancy. Once pregnancy is confirmed, she continues her prenatal supplements and the planning of her delivery begins. At anytime after 45 days during the pregnancy the female can be taken to a vet to have an X-ray preformed to get a count on puppies.

I may or may not have X-rays done, as I am no longer a fan of them after experiencing a miscarriage with Egypt 2 days after having one preformed. We lost a litter of 4! So if you choose to have one done I would recommend waiting till the 56-58 day mark, but generally bones are visible via X-ray at 45 days.

The potential of upcoming litters are listed above, you can follow their journey on Instagram (@happydaypoms) via pics and video during pregnancy, of births, and puppy photos in real time.
